In the fall of 2021, Holo Air went into collaboration with Airflight, a new drone manufacturer for heavy lifting freight in the air. The goal is to gain the operational experience for future freight operation with heavy lift. With Holo’s operational experience for getting drones into the air, and Airflight’s ambition to implement heavy weights drones, we see the opportunity to move mobility forward, for good.

Airflight is the provider of the biggest drone in Denmark, which can be compared to a flying crane. This means that Holo at the same time will be the first operator to get a drone of this size up in Danish airspace.

This project focuses on use-cases on construction sites, or similar places where heavy lifting and the use of cranes are seen. Using our former experience with analysing needs and barriers for Urban air mobility, Holo are looking for the potential of implementing heavy lifting drones. 

With Holo's operational experience from former projects, we are excited to get a drone the weight of 190 kg into the air, which can carry and move a payload up to 200 kg. Holo’s role in this collaboration is to support Airflight in all operational tasks. This means that we are maintaining a function to help Airflight, and possible future partners in getting the drone into the air.

The project

Holo is the only company with an approval to actually fly and support the drone in operation. We have extensive experience with operating drones and with getting SORA (Specific Operations Risk Approval) permissions through the Danish legislation.

Therefore, Holo is excited to get new learnings in collaboration with Airflight on this flying crane.

First step is to obtain operational experience by training with the big drone. This is happening at our Playground at Odense Airport, where we can get the necessary experience and get to know the drone. 

Once completed, Airflight can implement the flying crane, in yet to be decided projects, with Holo’s operational support on the side.
